Love Is To Forgive Yourself

We can often find forgiveness in our hearts when someone we love has done something hurtful. But we tend to hold ourselves to a tougher standard when we have done something hurtful, sometimes carrying the hurt or shame with us for the rest of our lives.

Instead, we would be wise to sincerely make amends where we can, including to ourselves. For with the passage of time, we have grown in our thinking and in our maturity and therefore it is unlikely we would make those mistakes again.

Once we have learned the lessons contained within our mistakes and made amends for the harm we have caused others, we hopefully will forgive ourselves as we would forgive our loved ones.

Otherwise we will carry an ever increasing burden whose weight could eventually overwhelm us. After all we are but human and many of us seek forgiveness from a Higher Power. Perhaps in that process, we could grant ourselves some of what we seek from that Higher Power.

For it just may be that those mistakes were our Higher Power's or the universe's way to guide us in another direction, one meant for our growth and well-being.
