The Empty Nest - Men

Many women who are devoted mothers suffer from the void of an empty nest when their children leave to make their own lives.

Suddenly these women feel like they are no longer needed and their lives are empty.

But here is something that may surprise you: Men also are confronted by an empty nest.

The difference is men are confronted by an empty nest when their careers as they've known them come to an end. This is true of EVERY career unless a man (or woman) dies while still conducting it.

Retirement or a long layoff can be a killer because the person no longer has a sense of purpose.

The wise career man or woman begins a transition before a career comes to an end. What it is this person would like to do at this stage of life is likely different than what they chose to do at an earlier stage of life.

The empty career nest need never become one, but instead an outstanding opportunity if the man or woman has done extensive self-exploration and is prepared for the steps necessary to transition into a new sense of purpose.
