Real love is given freely with no expectation of anything but love offered in return. It is unconditional.
Love that comes with strings attached, obligations to be paid is not love. It is a leveraging of one's emotions to get something else in return. Lovingly and calmly rejecting this manipulation may take a great deal of courage but it will show one and all what the relationship is built upon.
And if love then departs, it will be painful, but it never really was love. It was an illusion. And having the courage to reject that illusion provides a higher level of self-respect and the opportunity to begin anew with somebody who is appreciative of the love being offered and sincerely loving in return.
