Love Is A Very Thoughtful Mother

For many years, Rossette Escalambre has been a wonderful friend to my wife Anne and me and we very much look forward to seeing her each year when we visit Vancouver. When we get together, she always has heart warming stories to share which include her husband Robert and their sons Patrick 20 and Lorenzo who just turned 17.

Today, I would like to share one of this year's lovely stories with you. Last Mother's Day, Rossette's sons invited her and Robert to a Mother's Day lunch, but Robert was unable to join them as he works weekends.

"Pick your favorite restaurant," Rossette's sons told her, as if the cost was no issue to them. But Rossette knew as students, neither son earns much money. So with a burst of enthusiasm, she proclaimed White Spot, a nice clean inexpensive coffee shop that she knew they could afford was her "favorite restaurant."

Everyone had a great time celebrating Mother's Day at White Spot and when the bill came it was for just $50, an amount they could afford, including Lorenzo who makes only $50 a week in his six hour work week, a work week he does in addition to attending high school.

The boys were proud, because they made their mother happy, which they did by their thoughtfulness and Rossette was happy as well because everyone had a great time. Some day when they can afford it, Rossette may choose a fancier restaurant but for now a coffee shop will do just fine as her "favorite restaurant."
