Anne's and my 6 year old grandson Brody recently fell on the playground outside his 1st grade class and unfortunately he hurt his knee, a knee which soon swelled.
After being treated by the school nurse, his parents Kevin and Melody were called and Melody rushed Brody to a hospital emergency room, where Kevin joined them and where Brody's knee was xrayed.
The doctor was sympathetic to little Brody and despite the severe swelling of his knee, she assured Kevin and Melody it would be fine and that the knee would soon return to normal.
But that night, Brody was upset, saying he was in a lot of pain and began hobbling around even more than our son Kevin who only a week or 10 days earlier had had knee surgery.
The next day when Brody returned to school, he wore short pants so the other kids could see the ACE bandage on his knee. As Kevin and Melody heard the story from Brody's teacher, Brody was soon back on the playground running with the other kids.
However, despite Brody seemingly doing well in school that day, that night when his homework was presented to him, he again had a noticeable limp and was once again in pain. But now just a few days later, adorable little Brody is getting back in the swing of things and having a good time as he so often does.
As a precaution, the doctor cancelled Brody from playing in his last two Pee Wee league baseball games of the season. But Saturday (5/5/12), Brody arrived for the last game with Melody and sat in the dugout with his teammates, as she helped coach the team.
Afterwards, the whole team went to a pizza place to eat and laugh and to celebrate the wonderful season the kids had had, and each child received a trophy, for his or her participation. It was a lovely way for Brody to wrap up his baseball season with his buddies.
As loving grandparents, Anne and I look forward to being with Brody and to seeing his trophy. But we will also give him hugs and kisses to make up for the pain this cute little guy has had to endure.
