Some people irritate us, even to the point we want to harm them. But to overcome this anger, and to grow as a spiritual being, I am striving to "seek God in each person," for not only would I never do anything to harm God, but instead it makes me forgiving and increasingly I can see things through "a higher awareness" of their and my fallibility.
As a result, I'm calmer, happier and more patient with the shortcomings of others, as I am hopeful they too will be forgiving of my shortcomings. With such a positive attitude, I find many people treat me well and are more forgiving or patient with my shortcomings.
You need not be religious to follow this advice. If you cannot seek God within them, try to see them as people who make mistakes, just as you make mistakes. Then treat them as you would want to be treated. In most instances, people don't need nor want your criticism, they want your support and if they even acknowledge to themselves they have made a mistake, they want your forgiveness and your respect. This is how you win the hearts and minds of others.
