Anne's and my son Clayton shared this heartwarming story last night with Uncle Gene, and Uncle Gene with warmth in his voice shared it with me today. Clayton's and Maria's 4 year old daughter Carina had asked Clayton to bring a big box of donut holes to her pre-school class.
Later, when she saw him standing in the back of the glass holding a big box of donut holes, without a word being spoken, tiny Carina lit up with joy as she looked at her dad, her beaming smile instantly touching his feelings. Clayton told Uncle Gene that he didn't know if it was him or the donut holes or both that she responded to but it so touched his heart, it will stay with him all of his life.
Such joy reminds us that love can be expressed in so many ways. And as donut holes cost next to nothing it tells us how much the little things count and to the extent they can touch our hearts.
