Learning To Forgive Yourself

Each one of us has done things we deeply regret.

To the extent we are able we must make amends, but we must also recognize something else that is vital to our well-being and fundamental to our love and respect for ourselves:

That is we must learn to forgive ourselves.

Without self-forgiveness, low self-esteem and even self-loathing can take over as the light in our lives disappears into darkness taking much of our joy and sense of purpose with it.

What we did was reflective of who we were and the circumstances that existed at that time. As a result of what happened, and the lessons it taught us, we conduct ourselves more wisely and we do better.

We can't change what happened but it made us better people and now if we can forgive ourselves we have the opportunity to make life better, happier and more loving for others and for ourselves.

Thank you to my niece Debbie Houston for her reminder of the importance of self-forgiveness.
