While feeling warm and cozy last night, Anne, my wife of 47 years in speaking of our home and all the love and happiness in it, said, "To have this place and come and be accepted and loved," was her refuge from what can sometimes be a cold and difficult world. "And I belong here," she added.
It felt heartwarming to hear these wonderful words expressed with such warmth and deep conviction, but they are not unique to us. If you aren't hearing similar sentiments from your loved one, it may mean this person needs to feel reassured by you. Regularly hearing "I love you," in itself can make a huge difference.
Add in compassionate listening time and words of empathy and reassurance and where ever you live, a home, an apartment, a trailer or a mud hut can become a place that love makes special for the two of you.
