"Momma Has Gone To Be With Dad"

Anne's and my son Clayton, an emergency room physician shared the following real life story which took place in his hospital last weekend:

A 92 year old woman was rushed to the emergency room with heart failure, seemingly having passed away. Two hours earlier, her husband of 69 years had died, and then she went into cardiac arrest.

At the emergency room, Clayton examined her and then told her daughter, "we can take extraordinary measures to try to save her if you want, but the odds against saving her are long. If we do manage to save her, she is not going to be as you remember her, and she will be living without your dad.

"Has she had a good life?" Clayton asked. "She has had a good life" the daughter replied. "What would you like us to do," he gently inquired. And after considering the question, the daughter stopped any further medical procedures. And she then told a family member, "Momma has gone to be with dad."

I found this real life story deeply moving because the couple had been married for 69 years, and without her husband, this woman no longer desired to live, and peacefully passed away just two hours later. I believe their daughter is right, her mother has gone to be with her dad. And hopefully it is to a place of happiness, love and peace.
