Love Requires Active Attention

You fall in love and assume that love will somehow sustain itself, and that the two of you will live happily ever after.

Instead, love works like a rose bush that is magnificent when it first arrives at your home, with it's captivating color and scent, it's beauty dazzling your heart. But if you don't actively tend to it, that rose bush will begin to wilt from your indifference, and lose it's flowers and leaves, slowly dying, it's beauty just a vague memory.

When love dies, it is often because of the indifference and inattention of one or both parties. When you fell in love, you devoted your time and attention to each other, nurturing one another. If you do that today, you could again have something special and exciting, as you fall in love again.

Alternatively, if you allow your love to die, you will soon be back in the social scene trying to attract someone else to fall in love with you. Assuming you eventually find someone, unless you change your inattentive ways, you will repeat the process of having love begin with excitement, much as a scented rose in bloom, and then from inattention your love will die, again and again, lover after lover.
