The Second Longest Hit

Anne's and my 6 year old grandson Brody plays in a Pee Wee style baseball league in which no score is kept and everyone gets to bat one time each inning of what is typically a 3 or 4 inning game. The other night, he hit a ground ball that rolled through the infield, misplayed by one tiny fielder after the next.

Among all the laughter and cheers from the crowd, it kept rolling until it got far into the outfield. It wasn't a powerful hit, just an unstopped ground ball but it turned out to be the second longest hit of the game. As a little baseball player it made Brody feel good about himself, like a sort of pint-sized Babe Ruth. And as a grandfather it is a joy to share this story with you dear reader.
