Love Is A Tiny 3rd Baseman

On Saturday, Anne and I attended our 6 year old grandson Cameron's Pee Wee League baseball game, a game in which no score is kept and each player bats once an inning, as family and friends take their heart's content of photos..

One inning while Cameron was in the field, he was playing 3rd base. The players are encouraged to pay attention in case the ball, a small softball, is hit to them. A ground ball was hit to Cameron who was playing around, not watching the batter. Cameron never saw the ball as it rolled by his foot and into left field, where another player got it and threw it back in.

On the next play, after Cameron had been encouraged again to pay attention, the batter hit a ground ball to him. But Cameron was playing with his glove as the ball rolled over his left foot and into left field, again fielded by another player.

Soon it was time for Cameron's team to bat and as he ran in, his family cheered for him, as the little guy joined his teammates at the bench where they wait to bat. While his play that inning in the field wasn't sterling, he touched our hearts with what really counts, his joy in playing the game with his little buddies.
