Letting Love In

One of life's great paradoxes is that each of us hopes and needs to be loved, while at the same time not necessarily letting love in. Why don't we let love in?

Because we are fearful, lacking in self-confidence and not loving ourselves, while also questioning the sincerity in others, for if we don't love ourselves, how can they love us.

Learning to love oneself is an inside job, that begins with doing things that elevate our self-esteem, such as raising a beautiful garden or cooking a mouthwatering meal or needlepointing a lovely design of stitches.

Self-esteem may also arise from charitable giving or it may come from being a good listener in helping others to solve their problems rather than being self-absorbed in our own.

We all need to let love in, and it can begin by taking one simple, life reaffirming step at a time.
