You are who you are, so how can love liberate you? It can liberate you if there is another facet to you, that even you might not be aware of.
How many times have you seen or heard of a woman who was considered to have "loose morals" or an "irresponsible" man who as a parent became seemingly a whole new person in which the love of that child transformed them.
Love liberated them into people of far greater depth and maturity.
Yes, there are some people who even after that child has come into their lives remain mired in the unpleasant and self-centered person they have always been. But there are many others whose lives are so deeply touched, that they become determined to be better, think better and to set a wonderful example for their son or daughter.
Their former lives fall away, as they uplift themselves and provide a loving and stable life for this tiny person who they hope will grow up to be a better person than they have ever been.
Love can also liberate you in another way. When compelled by love, one learns to forgive for it is not possible to love and hate at the same time.
Some people seek revenge against those who injure or kill someone they love. But as painful as it is, the wiser among us see the self-destruction this brings out in them while doing nothing to restore their loved one's well-being.
In a "60 Minutes" television show, a mother forgave a hardened professional killer for brutally killing her adult daughter. Her daughter was pregnant at the time, a fact this killer knew. When the baby boy survived, this woman, his grandmother began to raise him as her own.
The boy has mental and physical problems but he is a loving child devoted to his grandmother.
As for the killer, the man who also caused this boy his severe traumas, he was so deeply moved by this woman's forgiveness of him, that from behind bars, he has tried to do whatever he can to help her, including sending to her what little money he makes as a prisoner.
Can love liberate you?
Absolutely, if you have a generous and forgiving mind and a kind and loving heart and are determined to become a better person than you have ever been before.
