Nearly every Saturday night, Anne and I host a dinner at a lovely local family style restaurant. Sometimes we have more attendees, but our regulars are Anne's mother Mary, 89 and our friend Fay who is 97 and so sharp, you wouldn't play Scrabble with her unless you were a top player. Anne picks up her mother and I pickup Fay, both women living independent lives in their own homes of many years.
When we arrive at the restaurant, because we are regulars and so friendly we stop and greet the management and staff, they know our names (and we know their names) and we receive a warm greeting and outstanding service. It helps to make each of us feel special. As the ladies walk across the restaurant to our table, they feel good about themselves, wearing casual but lovely outfits and often having had their hair and nails done. It is a chance for them to get out among people in a very friendly atmosphere and show off their beauty. And all of the ladies are beautiful.
At the table, we update each other on our activities, discuss the news and other events and people of interest and share some laughs. In fact on this site is "Two Amateurs Build A Workbench," which came from a funny story Fay shared with us recently, one that made us laugh harder than we had in years.
Time passes ever so quickly and it is such a joy to share it with some of those closest to us over a Saturday night dinner. We know this is a special occasion to those who participate for they look forward to it all week long. Maybe you too have such people in your life whom you treasure and whose company you enjoy, as you make the most of the time you have together.
