How Did You Meet Your Sweetie?

I met Anne on January 15th, 1964 when we were both 18. She was walking in an El Camino College parking lot and I approached her on a bet from a friend to see if I could get a date with the next pretty young lady who came along. But as I looked into her blue eyes, I was spell bound for they seemed to sparkle in the afternoon sun.

With a smile I introduced myself and asked her about herself. As she began speaking I noticed how lovely she looked in her white blouse and brown skirt and her face was beautiful. But what really got my attention was how sweet and modest she was, as she spoke with warmth and a gentle energy and she talked about things other than just herself.

I was smitten and wanted a date with her regardless of the wager. When I asked, she accepted and that Saturday night I took her out using the money I had won in the wager. But after that, we kept going out, other than for a two month period when she returned to her long time boyfriend. By now I was 19, yet as young as that is, I knew she was the one for me.

I soon proposed and about a year later, we got married at 20 and 19. We've been married for 46 1/2 years and we are the parents of three grown sons and we are the grandparents to five little children. And I love her very much today. She turned out to be every bit as sweet and modest as my first impression said she was and time has made her even nicer and prettier.
